Informative article on the cross-cultural influence of capoeira and break dancing:
Hollow back to a head spin into a leg sweep, followed by some old, next-type floor work. Slick’s fast moves all seem like a routine he choreographed with his boy who moves in perfect sync with him. The music that accompanies what seems like an impromptu battle isn’t Hip Hop, and despite a few recognizable moves, these guys definitely aren’t breaking—they’re playing capoeira.
Interesting article… will finish up the ENTIRE thing when I hv time!
I used to think that breakdancing was purely a derivative of capoeira, but from what I’ve skimmed through in the article it warrants some reconsideration on my part. As with Lynn, I need a good stretch of time to read and digest the whole write-up properly.
Planetcapoeira.com has got some good interesting articles to be read, but sadly they’ve not updated their page for quite awhile, and they’re facing some problems with their Planet Capoeira magazine distribution… thank God we didn’t subscribe to them!
Siriema, I just need a good stretch to reach my toes, currently I think I can touch my ankles now!
Damn love handles!
It’s aliiiiiive! Finally, the comments are working again
Hmmm… this gives food for thought… so does this mean we can integrate b-boy moves into a jogar?
unless you like the feel of a berimbau / atabaque / pandeiro being knocked on your head, by all means
During the KDU show while we were having the samba de roda, this dude came in and started doing mini flares… Rafael just stopped playing the drums and stared at him…
That was different… it was a samba de roda… not a b-boy stage…
I meant, like flairs and stuff… not all out b-boy moves… I mean, they have some cool ground freezes and air freezes…
